Podcast Ep. 10 – Onboarding: Don’t throw your recruits overboard
06 August 2024 Retention Podcast
The start of a new job is probably one of the most important occasions in an individual’s life. It can also be one of the most important times in an employer’s calendar. Listen to this podcast where the issue of onboarding was examined from a number of different perspectives.
Rachel Schonwald, Senior Marketing Campaign Manager, HiBob, Ross Crook, Global Managing Director at Morgan Mckinley Talent Solutions and Nicole Whittaker, Associate Director of HR Consulting at Peninsula were our panellists.
While the ability to automate certain processes and ensure paperwork is handled compliantly and on time is certainly of value to employers, there is also a clear need to retain the human element in the process. While the onboarding process can be influenced by the type of job, sector and seniority of the placement, every employee requires an amount of individual care and attention when joining a new organisation.
Throughout the discussion the idea of organisational transparency was explored by the panellists so that candidates and new recruits understand exactly what they’re getting into and that their experience on arrival at the organisation matches that expectation. The issue of multigenerational workforces was also raised with an interesting insight into the differences in on boarding demands from Gen Z/Millenials compare to Gen X.
At a time of economic stress and continued pressure on organisations to cut – or at least control – costs, paying attention to the onboarding process in a good way to identify efficiencies and to ensure employers get maximum value from the people they wish to hire.
