The HR World, in partnership with Wilson have released a report into the career paths of Senior HR Professionals. Understanding the Landscape of HR Leadership in the UK is based on a comparative analysis of Board-Level and Senior HR roles.
Using Wilson’s AI-powered labour market reports tool, the report is based on an analysis of the skills gap between HR operational roles and C-level positions identifying developmental pathways alongside requirements for upskilling among those aiming for the top level of their organisations. A breadth of experience is clearly important for those who wish to take HR’s contribution to the top level while overseas experience is particularly valued in an increasingly global business environment.
Commenting on the release of the report, Lindsay Bridges – SVP Human Resources, UK&I, DHL Supply Chain said: “Overseas experience can really bring strong cultural insight if that’s possible, however working with diverse teams is a must in my view. Experience can also be gained by working on projects or stretch assignments. It’s not all about the next move, but opportunities to show that one can manage uncertainty, make decisions and take a broad view are good career-shaping steps.”
The HR World believes the HR function must take a leading and strategic role in determining the direction of the organisations it serves, and in determining the future of work more generally.
Following on from our roundtable and webinar discussion this report provides HR professionals with an insight into the path to the top, what is required to assume such a role and how HR professionals can attain the skills and aptitudes required to move the professional forward. It is a theme we will regularly return to with updates on this report and further discussions/resources next year.
